Automobiles in German Town Found Covered with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Police
Police reported they were notified by a man who noticed a car in Hanau covered with reddish substance

Approximately fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.

Police state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.

The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Police then discovered many other marked cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement say initial examinations show the fluid was likely blood from a person.

"At present there remains no indication as to its source; officials are not yet informed of any injuries in relation with the event," they stated.

Municipal representatives said they were working "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for details.

An important official commented the vandalism left him stunned and needed to be solved promptly.

"This incident hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing attack five years ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
